John Michael Kohler Arts Center — Arts/Industry Residency

Founded in 1974 (residency program in 1974, arts center in 1967), the Arts/Industry Residency at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center is one of the most unusual residencies in the world: artists live in Sheboygan and work inside the factories of the Kohler Company (pottery, iron, and brass foundries), with full access to industrial-scale processes, technical experts, and materials normally available only to manufacturers. Two- to six-month residencies for visual artists working in ceramics, iron, and brass. Production-intensive; artists often leave with bodies of work that would be impossible to make anywhere else.
